Full of people and stories

For millennia, the paths of tradespeople, pilgrims, and travellers crossed on Via Claudia Augusta, the most important trade route between Bavaria and Venice. Located right on this ancient road, Königsbrunn has always been a place of exchange and hospitality. Bavarian tradition, the close links to South Tyrol, and a touch of Italian dolce vita interweave to create a harmonious whole. This history is reflected in the heart of the town – in Zeller’s Quartier.

Historical milestones

  • 2300 BC: First settlements, predominantly Celts
  • AD 46: Extension of Via Claudia Augusta, first boom for handicrafts and hospitality
  • 17th century: Extension of the pilgrimage route to Klosterlechfeld and its monastery with a toll station at Neuhaus guesthouse
  • 1833: Construction of three springs by King Ludwig I, origin of the name “Königsbrunn” (literally “King’s spring”). During this period, many farmers (known as “Zellers”) settled in the region to provide for visitors and travellers. These Zellers were the beginnings of the municipality of Königsbrunn.
  • 1919: Josefa Oswald welcomed the first guests to the “Zum Goldenen Hirschen” guesthouse in the place where Zeller’s Quartier now stands.
  • 1929: Josefa’s eldest daughter, Walburga, took over the guesthouse with her husband, Georg Zeller.
  • 1967: After Walburga passed away, the next generation took over the business: Walburga (Junior), who unfortunately passed away in 1969, and Gina, together with Gina’s husband Walter Mitzel.
  • 1968: The guesthouse became Hotel Zeller, with 48 beds, a wine parlour, and a much-loved restaurant. Further modification and renovation work followed.
  • 2003: Transfer of the hotel from Gina and Walter Mitzel to their daughters Gundi and Gabi, along with son-in-law Christian Dreisbach
  • 2024: The next generation of the Dreisbach family joined the business: Maria Schuler (née Dreisbach) and Maximilian Dreisbach. Best Hotel Zeller became Zeller’s Quartier – a place that brings people together.

Your host family – people with heart and passion

The passionate hosts behind Zeller’s Quartier are the Dreisbach, Mitzel, and Schuler families.

Georgine (Gina) Mitzel

Senior manager, Mama, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and the cheerful soul of the hotel: Born in 1940 as the youngest daughter of Walburga and Georg Zeller, she grew up at the “Zum Goldenen Hirsch” guesthouse. She not only learnt the ropes of hospitality during her childhood, but also deepened her knowledge during various internships and at the home economics school. She loves cycling and walking – including through the hotel – and lends a helping hand when the opportunity arises.

Walter Mitzel

Senior manager and Gina’s husband: Walter grew up on a large farm in Königsbrunn and initially trained to be a butcher. After marrying Gina, he attended the hotel management school in Pasing, and the couple took over the business together in the late 60s. They put heart and soul into modernising and expanding the hotel before handing it over to Gabi and Gundi in 2003. Besides the hotel and his family, Walter has a third great love: FC Bayern Munich. He also enjoys cycling.

Gabi Dreisbach

Manager and the heart and soul of the Quartier: Having grown up in the hotel, she has been developing her flair for hospitality since childhood. Today, she’s responsible for HR, accounting, food & beverages, and kitchen organisation – and is always there to save the day. Her passion? Collecting stories, especially in her favourite place: the lively restaurant. When she’s not at the hotel, you’ll find her cycling or spending time with her granddaughters Emilia and Sofie.

Christian Dreisbach

Manager and strategist with an eye for the big picture. Originally from North Rhine-Westphalia in the west of Germany, he has called Swabia home for many years. The former chef is equally happy in the kitchen and the lobby, places where international flair meets warm hospitality – which suits him to a tee.

Gudrun (Gundi) Mitzel

Manager, Gabi’s sister, and the hotel’s all-rounder. Wherever help is needed – Gundi is there. Ideally at the reception, the lively hub of the hotel, where she can experience all the vibrancy of hotel life. She’s also responsible for hotel sales, revenue management, and supervising hotel operations. In quieter moments, she likes going on trips, doing sport, exploring nature, or reading a good book.

Maria Theresia Schuler (née Dreisbach)

After her studies, time abroad, and more, the daughter of Gabi and Christian is now a firm part of the family business. As fifth-generation host, she’s responsible for bookings, front office, revenue management, and sales, as well as spreading her own brand of cheer at the reception. Who knows: Perhaps her daughters Emilia and Sofie might soon be following in Mama’s footsteps!

Maximilian Dreisbach

Food & beverage is his world. The eldest son of Gabi and Christian loves getting the best out of ingredients, playing with different combinations, and creating new flavour experiences. In another life, he would probably have become a pro footballer. Or a dog trainer.

Leonhard Dreisbach

Maria, Max, and Vinzenz’s brother has completed tourism management training and is now doing a degree in business psychology. Just like both his brothers, he’s loved football for as long as he can remember, and now also enjoys cycling and hiking.

Vinzenz Dreisbach

The youngest of the Dreisbach siblings is a real sports lover. Handball, football, tennis, skiing – Vinzenz is bursting with energy. When his uni studies allow, you’ll often find him at the bar, swiftly jumping from one order to the next.

Katharina Perger

Max’s long-term girlfriend comes from an Innsbruck hotelier family. Her special strength is her inner calm: She keeps her cool even in the most hectic situations. She’s the mediator at Zeller’s Quartier and is also responsible for HR, front office, and marketing.

Maja

As the hotel’s feel-good manager, the family dog puts a smile on the faces of staff and guests alike. Her strengths? Sniffing out pats and scratches as well as puppy-dog eyes that melt hearts.

A glimpse of the future

Zeller’s Quartier is more than just a place, it’s a vision that is constantly growing and developing. With the greatest respect for the past and a clear view of the future, we’re not only hosts, but also regional trendsetters.

Our plans? To transform Zeller’s Quartier into the beating heart of Königsbrunn, into a place where work and leisure, community and individuality complement each other perfectly. Preserving tradition while having the courage to tread new paths – that’s our future.
